Spring is just around the corner and believe me, the children are very excited! As we continue preparing for first grade, it is so important practice all sight words and read twenty minutes each night. They are on their way to becoming Super Readers! We have been using the IXL program in class and the children are really enjoying the Jam board and working with the stylus. Each week, I will continue to add more topics into the teacher suggestion.

During this Lenten Season, we will discuss the significance of prayer, sacrifice and giving with a beautiful book called, “Have You Filled A Bucket.” I suggest that you watch the read aloud, located on You Tube, of "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" with your child. As we continue to prepare for Easter, we will learn and pray "The Stations of the Cross." and the events of Holy Week.
Also, your child received a Lenten Mite box to donate money for the Missionary Childhood Association. This is a beautiful way for them to show support for those in need, especially during this church season. As a suggestion, we discussed how they could do small jobs around the house and be paid (25 cents) to be put in their box. In class, we started a Lenten prayer chain and each day someone places the next link. Please return the box to school the week of March 27.
Value of the Month: Service
In ELA, we will continue to review and practice writing all short vowels. We will focus on learning the rules for the long vowel a and consonant digraphs. With the use of a sight word wall, the children are printing sentences from dictation, composing simple sentences and expanding their writing skills to express an idea or opinion. It is so important that they learn to apply the rules of written language such as, capitalization, punctuation and spelling.
