Dear Team Mrs. G Parents,

Spring is in the air and graduation is just around the corner! The eighth grade will start their month with their Math NYS Exam and then we begin wrapping up our curriculum.  

In ELA, we will be reading the high school favorite Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.  I will provide the novel for the students and we will complete a study guide.  I recommend that the students print out the completed study guides for To Kill a Mockingbird as well as this one when we finish it and put them in a folder labeled high school.  It may come in handy next year!  

In Social Studies we just finished our study of WWI and are starting a unit on the 1920s which the students typically enjoy!  We have one more unit in religion to complete and then we will begin reviewing for finals in all subjects.  The eighth grade sits for their finals earlier than the rest of the school.  Remember that the midterms and finals each count as ten percent of their final grade.  Tentative schedule:

Tuesday 5/23 ELA (reading comprehension)

Wednesday 5/24 SCIENCE

Thursday 5/25 SOCIAL STUDIES - Chapter 25

Tuesday 5/30 MATH and Spanish

Thursday 6/1 RELIGION  (the students have a review sheet)

The May Crowning will be Thursday, May 11 at 8:15 AM followed by the 9AM Mass.  The eighth grade girls who are asked by Mrs. Ficchi to participate should dress up in a spring/Church appropriate dress that day and walk in the procession.  They will be accompanied by our second grade communicants.  Parents are invited to join us!  

There is no school on Monday, May 8th for a teacher professional development day.  We have off Friday, May 26th AND Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day.

We will hold the “Passing of the Torch” Ceremony on Friday, June 2nd at 8:15 AM and stay for the 9AM Mass.  This year the class will be the passers instead of the receivers of the candles…how quickly time flies!

The 8th Grade’s last full day of school will be Thursday, June 1st.  Friday the 2nd will be the last day they wear their St. Ann uniform!

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE for week of graduation:

Monday, June 5th - 8th Grade comes to school 12:30 - 2:30 for graduation practice!  HIGH SCHOOL tshirt day!

Tuesday, June 6th - 8th Grade comes to school 12:30 - 2:30 for graduation practice!  CRAZY SOCKS and MISMATCHED outfit day!

Wednesday, June 7th - 8th Grade comes to school 12:30 - 2:30 for graduation practice!  TWIN day! (dress the same as a friend(s)

Thursday, June 8th - 8th Grade comes to school 10:00-11:30 for graduation practice!  St. Ann SCHOOL SPIRIT day! Wear as much Patriot gear as you can for your last day as a student but remember…Once a Patriot, Always a Patriot!

Friday, June 9th - Graduation 9 AM Mass  followed by the 8th grade breakfast 

                    - 2 PM Ceremony at the Church

Monday, June 12th - PROM at the school gym - their theme is Masquerade (black and gold)  6:00-9:00 PM

As parents we always want to stop the clock and pause time…let’s enjoy and cherish this last month together as this great group of children prepares for such a special time in their lives.  Teaching eighth grade is such a privilege as I too get to be a part of their memories and journey.  Thank you for that opportunity.
