Dear Friends,
St. Ann School is a place where academics are fostered, spirituality is ever present, and children are nurtured. Founded by the Presentation Sisters, our school is a Regional Catholic school fully accredited by the Archdiocese of New York and by the AdvancedEd Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary Education. Our curriculum is guided by the New York State Department of Education, the Common Core Curriculum, and the Archdiocesan Essentials of Learning. We provide a challenging environment for all students in Pre-K 3 through Eighth Grade. In addition, we create an environment where Catholic values and principles are learned and applied daily.
Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. As you consider the options, we invite you to explore St. Ann School and find all that is unique within our walls. A positive academic environment will only serve to create a learning experience far above the rest. All of our classrooms are technologically advanced with interactive SmartBoards that allow for varying types of instruction throughout the day. All classrooms are air-conditioned, providing a comfortable atmosphere for learning. We adhere to the standard curriculum but also include Spanish, Music, Art, and Gym classes at every grade level. In continuing to keep up with our ever-changing world, Fifth through Eighth Graders enjoy a 1:1 Google Chrome Book environment where learning is differentiated. These students use Google Classroom for assignments and power point presentations. Along with the upper grades, all of our PreK-3 through 4th Grade classrooms have computer centers.
Our Pre-K 3 program provides our smallest Patriots with the option of attending St. Ann School 3 full or half-days per week or 2 full or half-days per week. The program runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Our Universal Pre-Kindergarten program was recently recognized by the Department of Education for excellence in Pre-K programming.
Academically, our students excel. Recently, 100% of our Eighth Graders who went on to attend a Catholic High School received either full or partial scholarships. Many were placed in honors and/or scholars programs. A number of our Eighth Graders also recently sat for the Common Core Algebra I Regents and the US History and Government Regents. We are pleased to report that 100% of our students who took these exams passed.
Academics are important, but in order to create a fully responsible adult, and adhere to the tenants of our Catholic Faith, giving of oneself is encouraged throughout the school year. Our children participate in food drives, clothing drives, Toys for Tots, Project Hospitality, St. Jude's, Unwed Mothers, Altar Servers, Choir, and Mass. We are very proud of their generosity and concern for those in the global community as well. Comfy Cozy Day has become an annual event where students and teachers were allowed to come to school in comfortable clothes as long as they brought a donation and a new pair of pajamas or shoes to give to needy families. The very next day, as a school community, we were able to donate well over 300 pairs of new pajamas and shoes along with $1000 to the Holy Childhood Association for families in Third World Countries. Our Pre-K also raised $2000 dollars in support of St. Jude's Hospital and Research Center to help fight Childhood Cancer by participating in the St. Jude's Math-a-Thon. Our National Junior Honor Society spearheaded 3 major fundraisers and donated the monies to Philipino Relief; Worldwide Orphans, and Walk for Life. What a magnificent feat!
St. Ann School and the Seton Foundation for Learning has developed a special partnership. For three years, our Fifth Graders have collaborated with the students at Seton to get to know one another and appreciate their differences and their similarities. Seton students have made day trips to Saint Ann to see our learning environment and our students have gone there to see how these special needs students cope with their everyday struggles. A closing Mass with both populations took place in June ending with a Communion breakfast. Continuing this sharing is something that St. Ann School is a most proud participant.
Extracurricular activities are also important in forming a well-rounded individual. CYO Softball, Basketball, Track, Soccer, and Swimming are teams anyone can join. We also have a successful Drama Club, Young Christian Servants Club, Chess Club, Science Club, Band and National Junior Honor Society for our 7th and 8th Grade students. We are expanding these clubs to include a School Newspaper and a Lego Club. This year we are adding other events to bring our St. Ann School family closer together. Movie Night, Family Game Night, Breakfast with Santa, Spaghetti Night, and a Food Tasting Night are already in the works.
Recognizing the needs of today's society, St. Ann School offers an affordable After Care Program open until 6:00 PM every day. It is supervised by the teachers of this school. Please view our After Care section for more details and fees. Our staff is here very early every morning, so if need be, you can drop off your children by 7:15 AM and be assured they are safe with us.
If you are looking for a safe nurturing environment where your child will learn in a positive atmosphere, St. Ann School is the place for you. If you have any questions concerning any of the programs or want to take a tour of our school, please don't hesitate to call.
Thank you,
Bernadette Ficchi
